Families In Vietnam

A BRIGHTER FUTURE
THROUGH EDUCATION AND FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

For most children in Vietnam, school is not free. Our primary project is the Family Sponsorship Program which registers children for school, pays their school fees, and enables families to care for their own children. Click the Family Sponsorship Program link on the top menu for more details about our work. We now have 78 children in our program!
  • Families In Vietnam is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We send out receipts for tax purposes at the end of each year.
  • There is no overhead on these donations. All overhead is paid by other contributors.
  • Families In Vietnam uses PayPal to manage sponsorships. To make a donation via personal check, please contact val_lehner@yahoo.com.

Two families in our program consist of elderly grandparents raising their grandchildren whose parents have died, are in prison, or have abandoned them. Pictured here is T. with her grandpa. T. was born out of prostitution and her mother does not care for her. Her grandparents receive $40 per month to provide for T. and her sister.

  • $17 per month pays the school fees for one child and the child's family joins our Family Sponsorship Program (see link at top).
  • School fees include tuition, 2 uniforms, books, lunch at school and health insurance.
  • All school fees are paid directly to the school and we monitor each child's progress regularly.
  • You will receive information about the child you are sponsoring, including family details, photographs and letters from the child at least once per year.
  • We bring gifts to Vietnam each summer. You can include a letter, photo of yourself, and gifts for the child you sponsor.
  • If you would like to meet the family you are supporting, we can arrange a personal visit so that you can see the benefits of your support and develop a long-term relationship with a family in Vietnam.

This is a very tragic situation. The parents moved to Hanoi from Nam Dinh in an attempt to escape poverty, but they could not afford the school fees in Hanoi. The 2 older girls were in school in Nam Dinh, where the school fees are lower, but now they have missed a couple years of school and are behind their age-mates. The 2 young boys would have no education at all without sponsorship. At this point, in spite of the fact that the children are very studious and bright, the parents do not care if they go to school. Families In Vietnam is paying school fees directly to the schools so the parents cannot squander their children's opportunity for an education. Please consider sponsoring one or more of these children. THE GIRLS HAVE FOUND A SPONSOR! Email val_lehner@yahoo.com to specify one of the the 2 boys, or if you would like to sponsor more than one child from the family. Thank you!!

S. was dropped off at a Families In Vietnam foster home about 6 months ago and her mother has not returned. We would like to find a sponsor to send her to kindergarten. S. is almost 5 years old. Her father died and her mother is a drug addict. This is her chance for a future which is different from that of her parents!

The family of S. is very poor. His parents seriously considered placing him for adoption, but decided to parent him themselves. The family is very loving and stable. His father is paralyzed and has minimal use of his hands. However, he is very industrious and repairs electronics equipment to sell. The family does not have the money to send their son to school. This is an excellent investment of resources- there is a lot of potential in this child.

The mother of N. was burned on half of her body. She was lifting petrol down from a high shelf and spilled it. Someone intentionally lit her on fire. Her life is painful and hard and she truly hopes that her younger son will be able to get an education.
