A BRIGHTER FUTURE
THROUGH EDUCATION AND FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

For most children in Vietnam, school is not free. Our primary project is the Family Sponsorship Program which registers children for school, pays their school fees, and enables families to care for their own children. Click the Family Sponsorship Program link on the top menu for more details about our work. We now have 36 families (58 children) in our Family Sponsorship Program! Families In Vietnam is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Two-year-old Trang's father died a year ago. Her mother works hard to feed the two of them, but cannot leave Trang at home with her in-laws because the handprints which they leave on her face and body break her heart. We have enrolled Trang in pre-school so that she has a safe place to learn and play during the day while her mother works.

The Mai family is highly committed to providing an education to their children. They often do not have enough food to eat, and they owe a large debt to the bank because their herd of goats was stolen. 14-year-old Nhat needs a sponsor to enable her to finish high school.

Nhat's sister Nguyet is 10 years old. She attends school and helps her family by finding mushrooms and snails for them to eat. Please consider sponsoring this little girl so that she can remain in school.

Nguyen would not receive any education without a sponsor through Families In Vietnam. He lost one eye due to a run-in with a water buffalo horn and his family cannot afford to take care of his plastic eye properly, resulting in infections. Our staff desperately want this boy to have a chance.

Viet comes from a family with 4 boys. Their mother sells books and postcards to tourists in Hanoi, and their father works in the south of Vietnam. The boys live in the countryside with their grandparents. Viet's oldest brother was going to drop out of school this year so that Viet could go to kindergarten. The family was delighted to learn about our program. Would you consider sponsoring this little boy?

Thu lives with her brother and grandmother. Her father is in prison for dealing heroin and her mother left them 4 years ago after she beat Thu's brother about the head, causing brain damage and mental retardation. Their grandmother does her best to care for them, but has a hard time working because she has only one working hand due to a birth defect. Please consider sponsoring this precious little girl for 1st grade.

Anh's father is a drug addict who kicked his wife and daughter out of the house. Anh's mother is virtually illiterate and makes a living taking photographs of tourists around Hoan Kiem lake. We want to send Anh to preschool so that she has the skills necessary to succeed in school. Please consider helping this child get off to a good start in life.

Quan is a good student, but he was ready to drop out of high school so that his youngest brother could start school. Life is hard for his family- they are part African and face much discrimination in Hanoi. We are committed to helping Quan complete high school.

Hai Anh's mother has been a prostitute and postcard seller. She does not know who his father is, and is barely able to feed him. She walks with a limp due to a birth defect. Hai Anh needs to be in kindergarten, which is impossible without a sponsor through Families In Vietnam. Please give this little boy a chance in life.

Thao is 6 years old and has been living in the countryside, caring for her sister Mien and the baby. Thao cooked over an open fire, did the laundry, and cleaned the house while her mother worked all day as an itinerant farm laborer. Her father is married to another woman and does not support her. She is malnourished and very small. Her aunt and uncle, in our program here in Hanoi, agreed that she can live with them and attend school, and a $100 donation has already been received for Thao. We would like to find a sponsor for Thao to attend 1st grade in Hanoi and for Mien to attend preschool in the countryside. Their mother has found a babysitter for the baby. For $200 per year you can change the world for these two children.

SPONSORSHIP DETAILS
As a sponsor, you will receive information about the child, photographs and a letter from your child once per year. Please take a look at the Family Sponsorship Program link at the top of this page for more information about the program. We bring gifts to Vietnam each summer. You can include a letter, photo of yourself, gifts, and gently-used clothing. If you would like to visit the family you are supporting, we can arrange a personal visit so that you can see the benefits of your support and develop a long-term relationship with a family in Vietnam.

ONE-TIME DONATIONS OF ANY AMOUNT

Obtaining birth control is an ongoing issue for most families who join our program. Unwanted pregnancies result in a very high national abortion rate and difficulty caring for the number of children one has brought into the world. $80 provides a family in our program with family planning for a year plus one OB/Gyn visit for mom.
Birth Control

This little boy lives in the slums with his parents, who are illiterate beggars, and his 2 sisters. They are struggling to survive. He missed most of kindergarten because his father was in prison, his mother left the family, and his grandmother, who was caring for him, did not understand the importance of school. He just began 1st grade in the fall, but he is not ready. All the pre-reading skills we take for granted are missing- no bedtime stories, no books in the home, no playful alphabet and number games. We are providing him with daily tutoring. Please consider making an $80 donation to help Dinh succeed in school.
